A puzzle-and-strategy studio that strengthens the mind’s "executive muscles" — sorting by rules, remembering and focusing, spotting and extending patterns, and planning steps to a goal — and learning to think about how we think.

    Facilitator cue: Accept any answer with a good reason; there can be more than one.
    Support: Compare just two at a time: same or different?
    Stretch: Make a "does not belong" puzzle for a friend.

🔬 Why this works: Working memory, focus, and self-control are the executive functions that predict school success more than IQ (Adele Diamond). Memory games exercise them directly — and joyfully.

Big idea: A good plan is thinking before doing.

🔬 Why this works: Planning and self-monitoring are metacognition — "thinking about thinking" (Flavell). Making a plan, testing it, and improving it teaches that a first try is a draft, not a verdict.
